Hello everyone,I recently updated a client’s website with new branding and improved its overall performance. Despite my efforts to optimize the website and improve SEO, the organic traffic has decreased significantly since the site went live earlier this month. The client had previously worked with a marketing agency that only provided spammy backlinks and PPC services, leading to a decrease in traffic quality.
I have noticed a decrease in keyword rankings for low-traffic keywords, but an increase in rankings for higher-traffic keywords. Moving forward, I plan to remove the spammy backlinks and focus on building high-quality ones. Additionally, I will work on improving the client’s keyword rankings for phrases where they were previously ranked between 40 and 80.
Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? I will begin marketing the client’s services tomorrow in an effort to improve organic traffic and keyword rankings.
It’s common to experience a dip in organic traffic after a website redesign, especially if you’re working to improve the overall quality of your traffic. While you’ve seen some positive changes in keyword rankings for higher-traffic keywords, the drop in organic traffic suggests that you may be experiencing a few common issues:
- Search engine re-indexing: Google and other search engines need time to crawl and re-index your updated website. This process can take several weeks, and during that time, your traffic might fluctuate.
- Technical SEO issues: Even with improved performance, your new site may have technical issues impacting your SEO, like broken links, slow loading times, or a poorly optimized mobile version. These issues can hinder search engine visibility.
- Content changes: If you’ve significantly changed the content on the website, it may no longer be relevant to the keywords you’re targeting. This can lead to a decrease in organic traffic.
- Penalty from spammy backlinks: While you’re removing the spammy backlinks, Google may still be penalizing the website for its past practices. This penalty can take time to be lifted.
It’s important to be patient and continue monitoring your website’s performance over the next few weeks. It’s crucial to identify and address any technical SEO issues, focus on building high-quality backlinks, and continue to optimize your content for relevant keywords.
