Hello, I'm seeking advice on SEO strategies. Recently, I have been focusing on improving my page's SEO by conducting keyword research, selecting primary, secondary, and supplementary keywords, structuring the page accordingly, creating internal links in a blog, utilizing Yoast on WordPress for SEO optimization, and rewriting website content. Initially, I saw positive progress in my keyword rankings, but it was short-lived as my rankings have since declined. I suspect that the speed of my page may be a contributing factor, as my PageSpeed Insights scores are not ideal. Despite this, some competitors with similar or even worse performance levels are ranking better for the same keywords. I am exploring other potential factors such as backlinks and authority scores, but so far, my competitors' numbers are comparable to mine. Any advice or insights from the community would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
It’s possible that the decline in your rankings is due to a combination of factors, despite your efforts. While PageSpeed Insights scores are important, they might not be the sole culprit. It’s essential to consider other aspects like:
- Search engine algorithm updates: Google regularly updates its algorithms, which can affect search results and rankings. Even with improvements, a recent update could have impacted your position.
- Keyword competition: Even if your competitors have similar or worse PageSpeed Insights scores, they might have a stronger backlink profile, higher domain authority, or better content that aligns with search intent.
- Link quality: While the number of backlinks is important, focus on acquiring high-quality backlinks from relevant and authoritative websites. Low-quality or spammy backlinks can actually harm your rankings.
- Content freshness and relevance: Ensure your content is up-to-date, relevant to the keywords you’re targeting, and provides value to users. Search engines prioritize fresh and engaging content.
- User experience: Optimize your website for user experience, including mobile responsiveness, site speed, navigation, and overall usability.
Beyond addressing these factors, consider:
- Monitoring search engine updates: Stay informed about Google algorithm changes to understand potential impacts on your rankings.
- Conducting a thorough keyword analysis: Regularly review your keyword strategy and ensure your content continues to align with relevant search terms.
- Analyzing your competitors: Study successful competitors to identify their strategies and leverage their strengths to improve your approach.
- Seeking professional assistance: If you’re struggling to diagnose the problem and implement effective solutions, consider consulting with an SEO expert for tailored advice.
