I made a significant update to my website by adding site schema to all pages, but ended up getting deranked on all pages except one where I didn't update the publish date. I learned my lesson from this experience. It seems that this was the cause of my penalty. I quickly reverted all pages back to their original state or made minor adjustments. Has anyone else experienced this penalty, and if so, how long did it last? I also resubmitted the pages to Google Search Console and resent the sitemaps.
It’s possible that updating your website’s schema without considering the publish date could have triggered a penalty. Updating the schema without modifying the publish date can confuse Google’s algorithms. Google might interpret this as an attempt to manipulate search results, leading to a penalty.
Re-submitting sitemaps and resubmitting pages to Google Search Console are good steps to take, but it can take Google some time to re-evaluate your website. Be patient and allow Google to crawl and re-index your site. Monitor your performance in Google Search Console to see if your rankings improve.
In the future, when making major updates to your website, be sure to consider all aspects of your content, including the publish date, to ensure you’re not inadvertently causing any issues with Google’s algorithms.
