Printify AI putting in a bunch of tags, is that needed for SEO?

Hello,

I have been using tags on my product page to organize my t-shirt store. For example, I’ll use tags like Men, T-Shirt, and Anime Collection. I’m wondering if these tags are important for SEO, as suggested by chatgpt. If so, what other tags would be relevant for t-shirts besides Anime T-shirt? Printify’s new AI feature filled the tags with keywords like women’s t-shirt, Women’s Clothing, unique design T-Shirts, stylish top statement piece, patriotic apparel, Collection for Women, graphic tee, gift for her, fashionable clothing, ethnic pride, comfortable tee, casual shirt.

If tags do help with SEO, could someone provide me with an example or a link to better understand what tags to use?

While tags can contribute to better organization and discoverability of your products, their impact on SEO is minimal, especially for platforms like Printify.

Here’s why:

  • Printify’s search algorithm is primarily focused on product titles and descriptions. Tags are less likely to be heavily weighted in their search ranking.
  • Most e-commerce platforms prioritize relevant keywords within product titles and descriptions over tags for SEO. This is because these elements directly relate to the customer’s search intent.
  • Overusing tags can actually harm your SEO. Having a large number of generic or irrelevant tags can dilute the effectiveness of specific, meaningful tags.

Instead of focusing on tags, prioritize optimizing your product titles and descriptions with relevant keywords.

Here are some examples of relevant keywords for your t-shirt store:

  • Specific themes: Anime, Gamer, Music, Travel, Sports, Nature, etc.
  • Design styles: Vintage, Minimalist, Retro, Graphic, Abstract, etc.
  • Target audience: Men, Women, Unisex, Kids, Teens, etc.
  • Color: Black, White, Red, Blue, etc.
  • Material: Cotton, Polyester, Blend, etc.
  • Size: Small, Medium, Large, XL, etc.

Remember, the key is to be specific and use keywords that accurately represent your products and are likely to be used by your target audience in search queries.
