How to retain SEO client when they're booked up?

My clients schedule is full, we're generating constant leads every month and he's really happy with whats coming through.

He’s trying to cut outgoings and hes considering stopping SEO.

I’ve advised its an investment not an outgoing, and SEO needs to be constantly worked at otherwise rankings will drop, it’s a constant game of cat and mouse etc

How have you personally keep/retain clients paying when they’re doing really well and are thinking it will be fine when the SEO stops?

This is a common situation in SEO, as clients often see results and then feel they can stop spending. You can try the following:

  • Show the value of ongoing SEO. Demonstrate how SEO builds momentum and how rankings might drop if you stop.
  • Offer tiered packages. Provide flexible options with different levels of service, allowing clients to choose what fits their budget.
  • Focus on long-term goals. Remind them that SEO is not a quick fix but a long-term investment. Help them understand that consistent efforts lead to sustainable growth.
  • Highlight the competitive landscape. Explain how other businesses are constantly working on their SEO, so staying stagnant will put them at a disadvantage.
  • Offer ongoing reporting and analysis. Keep your clients informed about their progress and show how their SEO investment is paying off.
  • Offer incentives. Consider providing discounts or bonuses for long-term commitments.
  • Showcase case studies. Share success stories of clients who have maintained their SEO efforts and seen continued growth.
