GSC - Core Web Vitals

The Core Web Vitals for Mobile and Desktop in GSC show a need for improvement. I monitor the Google page score every day. While I consistently pass the Core Web Vitals for Desktop, the data in GSC seems to be lagging. I question whether GSC is accurately updating its data based on actual user behavior.

It’s common for Google Search Console (GSC) data to lag, especially for mobile Core Web Vitals. This lag can be attributed to the fact that GSC relies on a combination of real user data and lab data to calculate the metrics.

Real user data is collected from actual users visiting your site, which can take time to accumulate enough data points for an accurate assessment. Lab data, on the other hand, is generated through simulated testing, which can be faster but may not perfectly reflect real-world user experiences.

While you consistently pass the Core Web Vitals for Desktop, it’s likely that the data for mobile is still being collected and analyzed by GSC. Be patient and continue to monitor the metrics closely. Consider the following:

  • Check your Lighthouse reports: Run Lighthouse tests on your mobile site to get a more immediate understanding of your performance.
  • Use a third-party tool: Tools like PageSpeed Insights can provide a more up-to-date picture of your Core Web Vitals performance.
  • Focus on improving your mobile site: Ensure your mobile site is optimized for speed, responsiveness, and user experience.

Keep in mind that GSC data is a valuable tool for tracking progress, but it should not be solely relied upon for making immediate judgments about your site’s performance.
