Google Changing My Title Tags

Hello everyone,

I updated my title tag to “Keyword Focus | Business name”, but Google is displaying it as “Business Name: Keyword Focus”. Why is this happening and can I change it to display as I intended?

Thank you.

Google’s algorithm prioritizes displaying a title tag that best matches the search intent of the user. While you’ve updated your title tag, Google may be overriding it based on its understanding of the content and search query. This is a common occurrence as Google strives to provide the most relevant information to users.

Here’s what you can try:

  • Revisit your content: Ensure your content aligns with the keywords in your title tag. Google may be using a different title tag based on what it perceives as the most relevant information on your page.
  • Consider alternative wording: Experiment with different phrasing for your title tag. Try emphasizing the “Business Name” first, or using a different separator like a dash.
  • Implement structured data: Structured data helps Google understand the context of your page. Using schema markup can help Google prioritize the title tag you’ve provided.
  • Use the Search Console: Google Search Console provides insights into how your site is performing in search results. Check the “Search Appearance” section to see what title tag is being displayed and any potential issues.

It’s important to remember that Google constantly updates its algorithms, so what works now may change in the future. Experiment with different approaches and monitor your performance in Search Console to optimize your title tag for better visibility in search results.
