Drops in my indexed pages - GSC report

Hello everyone, I recently came across a question on my Google Search Console page indexing report. I have observed a significant decrease in the number of pages listed under "all submitted pages," with both the indexed and not indexed pages dropping from 4.6k to 200 and 5.5k to 400, respectively. However, the number of pages listed under "all known pages" continues to increase steadily, and my impressions are showing a consistent rise with a sudden increase in clicks.

I am unable to determine the cause of the drop in “all submitted pages,” so I would appreciate it if anyone could help me understand the reason behind this and provide suggestions on how to resolve it. Thank you for any advice you may have.

It’s possible that Google has recently recrawled your site and re-evaluated the pages it considers indexable. This could lead to a decrease in “all submitted pages” as Google may have identified some pages as unsuitable for indexing, even if they were previously included. The increase in “all known pages” suggests Google is actively discovering new content on your site.

Here are some potential causes and solutions:

  • Technical issues: Ensure your site is free of technical errors that could prevent Google from crawling and indexing pages. Common issues include broken links, slow loading times, and poor mobile usability. Use Google Search Console’s “Crawl Errors” report to identify and fix any problems.
  • Content quality: Google may have deemed some of your content as low quality, duplicate, or irrelevant to search queries. Focus on creating high-quality, original content that satisfies user intent.
  • Content removal: Have you recently removed any pages or content from your site? If so, Google may still be in the process of removing them from its index, resulting in a decrease in “all submitted pages.”
  • URL changes: Have you made any changes to your website’s URL structure, such as redirects or URL parameter changes? These changes could affect how Google crawls and indexes your site.

Monitor your Google Search Console closely to see if the number of indexed pages stabilizes or continues to decline. Consider reaching out to Google directly for further support if needed.
