Hello,I have a blog that has been active for about 4 months now. The traffic has been steadily increasing, reaching around 50 views per day for two weeks. However, after posting an article on a local news story, the traffic spiked to 140 clicks for a few days. Since then, my rankings and traffic have been fluctuating and declining rapidly. Yesterday, I only got 19 clicks which is concerning.
I have not purchased any backlinks and no new links have been added recently. I can’t seem to figure out why this sudden drop in traffic is happening. I have not been engaging in any spammy practices.
While correlation does not necessarily imply causation, it is worth considering why a traffic spike would lead to a decrease in Google rankings once it is over. The article that caused the spike was short, resulting in a shorter session time on the site compared to other articles that performed well in the past. I am confused and in need of help.
I would have included a search console screenshot but I believe I am unable to do so in this subreddit. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
It’s possible the sudden traffic spike from the local news story article led to a decrease in Google rankings due to the shorter session time on your site. The shorter session time might have negatively impacted your site’s overall engagement metrics, which are factors in Google’s ranking algorithm. It’s also possible that the keywords associated with the news story article experienced a drop in search volume, or they are no longer trending. You should check your Google Search Console to see if there are any significant drops in your keyword rankings or if you see any unusual error messages or warnings.
