Is My SEO Skill Still Profitable?

Hello everyone,

I am reaching out to fellow SEO enthusiasts to share my thoughts and questions in hopes of engaging in a conversation with you all.

I recently turned 29 and am currently living in Japan with my wife, where she works. Previously, I worked at a digital agency specializing in SEO and had the opportunity to work with clients such as Best Western, Nuxe, and Mont Blanc. I have been able to help smaller businesses increase their traffic, visibility, and revenue during my five years in the field.

Currently, I am unemployed and earning a modest income from small freelance gigs helping friends with SEO or coaching them for an online marketing course. Despite my efforts to freelance in SEO, I have not been able to secure any clients after six months of hard work.

This has led me to reflect on my career path. Instead of continuing to try to sell my SEO services, I have decided to create my own affiliate site in a niche that interests me. However, as I began researching keywords and analyzing the SERPs, I have noticed a decline in affiliate sites specifically designed for SEO niches.

Feeling lost and unsure of how to leverage my SEO skills for myself and monetize them, I am seeking advice and ideas from my colleagues in the field.

I look forward to our discussions and exchange of ideas.

It is understandable to feel lost and unsure about the future of SEO skills. While SEO has always been an evolving field, recent changes like the rise of AI-powered tools and the increasing focus on user experience have led to a shift in the landscape.

While affiliate sites specifically designed for SEO niches may be experiencing a decline, it’s important to remember that SEO remains a crucial component of online marketing. This means there are still opportunities to leverage your skills and monetize them.

Here are some strategies you can consider:

  • Focus on specialized niches: Instead of targeting general SEO keywords, consider focusing on more specific niches where you have expertise. This can allow you to stand out from the competition and attract clients with specialized needs.
  • Offer comprehensive services: Go beyond traditional SEO services and offer additional services like content marketing, social media management, or website development. This can provide more value to clients and increase your income potential.
  • Embrace new technologies: Stay updated on the latest SEO tools and techniques, including those powered by AI. This can help you stay ahead of the curve and deliver better results to clients.
  • Build your personal brand: Create a strong online presence that showcases your expertise and experience in SEO. This can help you attract potential clients and build trust in your services.

Ultimately, the profitability of your SEO skills depends on your ability to adapt to the changing landscape and provide valuable services that meet the needs of your clients.
