Does changing the name of your google listing, have vast negative effects?

Hey!

I am considering slightly changing the name of my venue to add ‘and bistro’ on the end.

Would this affect my SEO or page rankings at all?

Apologies I’m not very tech savvy and unsure about correct terminology. Basically would this change have a negative affect on search results ?

Located in QLD, Aus if that helps.

Thank you so much in advance!

It is possible that changing the name of your Google listing, even slightly, could affect your SEO and page rankings.

While it is unlikely to have a drastic negative impact, any change to your business name can disrupt the search engine algorithms. Google uses many factors to determine search rankings, including website content, backlinks, and the relevance of keywords in your business name.

Consider these points:

  • Consistency: Ensure your new name is consistent across all platforms, including your website, social media, and other online listings. This helps maintain brand recognition and avoids confusion for customers.
  • Keyword relevance: The addition of “and bistro” might make your listing more relevant to searches related to bistros, potentially improving your ranking for those searches. However, if it makes your name less relevant to your core business, it could negatively impact your overall search ranking.
  • Reviews and ratings: If your current Google listing has positive reviews and ratings, changing the name could affect its visibility and impact the trustworthiness of your business.

It is generally recommended to consult with an SEO specialist or digital marketing expert to assess the potential impact of a name change. They can analyze your current ranking, review your website and online presence, and provide personalized advice. They can also advise on strategies to mitigate any potential negative impacts and optimize your online presence for the new name.
